I’m Faith P. Nelson, a Jamaican-born writer, poet, performer, and book developer based in Maryland. I work with stories in several forms: on the page, on stage, and in learning experiences for children.
I began performing as a singer and actress in Jamaica. Later, I served at the Jamaican Embassy in Washington, DC, and worked at Black Entertainment Television. Those experiences deepened my interest in how culture travels, how stories are told, and whose voices get heard.
Today, I write poetry and fiction, help authors develop their books, and create reading-centered math adventures through Minko Math Club. My books include *Water Therapy* and *Luminescent Ships: Love Songs to Caribbean-American Life*. I also created Verse Docent, a space for exploring poetry through conversation.
Curiosity has guided every change in my working life. Whether I’m shaping a manuscript, writing about Caribbean history, or helping a child find a way into a story, I’m looking for the moment when something opens up for the reader.
